Srinagar, Feb 01 (KNO): In a bid to maintain the integrity of the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir, the Tourism Enforcement Wing has recovered fine to the tune of over Rs 19 lac for different violations during the year 2023, officials said. According to the data obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the tourism enforcement police wing has registered around 14 First Information Reports (FIRs) under different sections of the Tourist Trade Act during the year 2023. Official sources while divulging the details said that the enforcement wings were directed towards addressing various violations committed by the tourism service providers in J&K under offenses like overpricing, cheating, fake Gandolo ticketing and others. In response to the increasing number of violations and fines, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for tourism enforcement wing, Dr. Sallauh-u-din Choudhary stated that the enforcement department actively addressed more than 350 complaints received through various channels in 2023. “The complaints highlighted issues related to overcharging and cheating by various tourism service providers, including Shikara walas, guides, drivers and other service providers,” he told KNO. Dr. Choudhary emphasized the department's dedication to addressing complaints promptly, stating, “Beyond regular inspections across Jammu and Kashmir, our department takes cognizance of all the complaints. Last year, over 14 FIRs were registered for various violations.” He noted that not only the fine collection amounting to over Rs 19 lac, an additional Rs 10 lac was also refunded to individuals, who were charged extra. “The robust enforcement sends a clear message about the tourism department's commitment to ensuring fair and transparent practices within the tourism industry,” he said. He added that the tourism enforcement police's proactive measures serve as a testament to their unwavering dedication to upholding the standards of service and safeguarding the interests of all those who avail the services from tourism service providers in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
